PHP 5.3.1 released — I am not upgrading yet

PHP 5.3.1 was released yesterday with 146 issues fixed. Today I found Sean Kerner’s blog post about it (I think link was in Reddit). I have to say I agree his feelings:

And you wonder why pessimists like me NEVER update to the first new major point version of a PHP release.

Make no mistake about it PHP 5.3 is a major release up from PHP 5.2.  Now with the availability of the first update to PHP 5.3, I think it’s time for PHP users to take serious look at migrating from their legacy PHP 5.x installations.

I can say I’m pessimists what comes to our production servers at work and I won’t upgrade those even now when 5.3.1 is out. I will wait few minor releases more. History has proven for us that we should not hurry with PHP upgrades.

I agree fully with Sean about that 5.3 is a major release up fro 5.2. On my laptop I have PHP 5.3 installed and has founded that some of our legacy applications has some problems with 5.3. We are also hosting quite many Drupal website and Drupal seems to have some problems with PHP 5.3.

Maybe PHP 5.3 would be called as PHP 6…
