Nokia software update fail

Few weeks ago my Nokia E75 noticed of new software update. This is my first phone which has update notifier. It has also option to download and install update directly from phone without needing PC Suite. I think this was great because I don’t own PC, but I found reality is different.

I tried to download update directly from phone without success. I clicked yes, yes and yes to all questions about you need internet connection and downloading may cost something depending your provider etc. and only result I got was red notice “server returned invalid response”. First I thought problem might be heavy load on update server and decided to try again later. I chose option “remind me later”.

During weeks I tried update many times, but result was same every time. Monday I was first day on work after vacation and I decided to update my phone with one old PC which we have on office. I downloaded and installed PC Suite, took backup from my phone, downloaded and installed update. Now everything went fine though process took quite long (during works I think it took over an hour). I thought I was happy ;)

During my way to work I have habit to use my phone’s browser and read rss feeds. Google Reader opens items to new window and I usually open many windows on background. This way I don’t have to wait page to load which may take quite long with mobile connection. Before software update I used keyboard to navigate windows (with w and arrows you can change window). Now I wondered why this was not working. After surfing for a while I found that any of keyboard shortcuts wasn’t working from qwerty keyboard.

I’m used to new software version should enhance product, but this update did opposite. If Iphone could be bought without bend to Sonera…
